For creative projects in general, it's wise to find one's own path. I was listening to Brandon Sanderson recently and he writes about eight hours per day. This sounds like a miserable life to me. Now, to be fair he doesn't recommend this to other writers. What he does recommend is consistency (an hour every day or 40 hours per week) and with this I do agree. Sometimes, like exercise, we're simply not in the mood.
Also, Ive been listening a lot about involving deities. On page 119 in The War of Art, Pressfeild, as everyone knows, writes about Invoking the Muse. The book I'm reading gives its readers instructions on merging with a deity. The Ritual is pretty simple. One does a protection around themselves, then they visualize who they would like to work with. They imagine the deity, or angel or deva, approaching. They wave and smile and imagine the spirit waving and smiling. In your mind, you turn around so that you and the being are facing the same direction. Then imagine the being and you merging. Then you do your creative work. At the end, you do the ritual only backwards, imagining the being leaving you.
I'm still not sure about this ritual. One. It may be a it too woo-woo for me. Two. Would this go against Christianity? I suppose one could merge with a saint or angel (when you get confirmed in the Church, you're supposed to become like your saint). Three. It seems time-consuming.
On other notes, I'm hard at work on my new novel and it's been a lot of fun. I'm really enjoying writing again.
